What is a FIBC bag ?
FIBC bag stands for flexible intermediate bulk container, it is an industry container using flexible material for storing and transporting dry and flowable products, such as sand, fertilizer, and granules of plastic.
What are FIBC bag made of?
FIBC bag are usually made of thick woven polyethylene, they are either coated or uncoated. Transporting and loading is normally done on either pallets or by lifting it from the loops.
The FIBC bag have either one, two or four loops. Emptying the bag is easier because of the special opening at the bottom of the bag such as a discharge spout by simply cutting it open.
What are the different types of FIBC bags?
- Type A
The type A bags are made of plain-woven polypropylene and other non-conductive fabrics. Each time a product moves over or rub against the inside surface of the bulk bag, static electricity will then generate.
- Type B
Similarly to type A, both bags have plain-woven polypropylene fabrics and other non-conductive fabrics. Likewise, type B bulk bag also does not have any mechanism for dissipating static electricity.
However, there are a few differences between the two FIBC bags, the material on type B have a lower breakdown voltage to prevent incident where highly energetic and dangerous propagating brush discharges can occur.
- Type C
Type C bags have non-conductive polypropylene fabrics interwoven with conducting threads that is traditionally sew in a grid pattern.
The conducting threads must interconnect electrically to a specific ground or earth surface during the process of filling and discharging. The connection is imperative to the safe use of type C bags.
- Type D
Lastly, the type D bags have antistatic and static dissipative fabrics to safely prevent the occurrence of flammable sparks and propagating brush discharges without the need for a connection from the FIBC bag to a specific ground/earth.
